So I was going to upload a blog post about Amsterdam and how beautiful it was and how much I enjoyed wandering the streets, holding hands with the one I love, eating, laughing, exploring.
But I’ve just watched a film called Oscar Grant on the plane, and so instead I’m asking you to spend a few minutes thinking, praying, sending love, (whatever works for you) to those on this planet who are not so lucky. To those who live their lives in hardship everyday, struggling to make ends meet, and trying to provide for themselves and others against all odds, those dealing with hatred, violence, and prejudice.
To then spend a few minutes thinking of all the blessings you have in your life. Whether that be loved ones, family, friends, the fact you have food to eat, and a roof over your head. And feel the gratitude and love fill you.
Then finally, to do something today for someone else. Extend that love and gratitude into the world. Anything that comes from your heart to anothers. A smile or comforting hug, a helping hand, or call someone with a long overdue sorry.
Oscar Grant was 22 when he was shot dead on a train platform by a police officer. Leaving behind a young daughter, partner and family. A man who had struggled to stay on the straight and narrow through his youth but had made the changes he needed to in his life to be a good dad, son and partner. A man who had decided to face himself and to live from his heart. A man who died at the hands of prejudice and aggression.
If we all give a little love, open our hearts to one another and do what we can to help each other along the way. We can make the world a brighter place, filled with a little more love and a little less anger.
Thanks for listening
Much love
Gayle

PS
After firing all the officers involved, the general manager and chief of police stepped down. The officer who shot Oscar was jailed.
If you want to watch the film. Buy tissues.
